July 2010

Dear BC Winter Club Members:

WOW… what a season!! A HUGE THANK YOU to all our coaches and volunteers that helped us make the 2009-2010 such a success!!

This past year, the BC Winter Club was invited to perform during intermission at a February, Binghamton Senators hockey game, in conjunction with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. It was an honor to perform for area hockey fans. We had every skill level on the ice, from our littlest Learn to Skate kids to our feature skaters: Christopher and Emelyia Owen, former New England Regional Pairs Champions and Annie Mateya, MidAtlantic Novice Ladies Champion, performing wonderful jumps and spins! Our families and friends filled almost an entire section of the Arena! We had an awesome time!

Our Learn to Skate program has grown in leaps and bounds! This year, we put over 200 skaters on the ice in two sessions! Our coaches had their work cut out for them, but they skated to a complete success. Our skaters had a blast and are already looking forward to our upcoming season!

Don’t forget, your Club membership expires at the end of June! Click on our BECOME A MEMBER link to download our Membership Application and renew your membership today! USFSA has a brand-new membership level for first-time members!! Check it out and become a BCWC member today!

Club elections have been held and the new 2010-2011 Board of Directors and Officers is in place. Officers are: Michele Mapes – President; Scott Goldstone – Vice-President; Nancy Shuman – Secretary/Treasurer. Board members are: Andy Shuman, Colleen Goldstone, Sue Dornblaser, Valerie Faughnan and Tammy Moody. Please feel free to contact any of us with any questions you have or to volunteer your time to assist with any Club activity. We are only as strong as our volunteers!

Have you heard? BC Winter Club will have SUMMER ICE this summer! This is a great opportunity for our skates to not “lose their edge” over the summer! We have contracted with Chenango Ice Rink (formerly the Polar Cap) for 8 sessions of ice, beginning on July 15th and continuing through September 2nd. Each session is 1.5 hours in length. Some of our coaches will be available for private lessons if you are interested in continuing or beginning lessons, or you can just use this time to practice what you learned over the season on your own. Our ice package is only $100 for all 8 evenings, with the individual walk-on fee set at $15. As always, your professional lessons are separate and should be arranged for by contacting your coach. If you don’t have a coach yet and are interested in private lessons, please contact me at Secretary@bcwinterclub.org and let me know.

Watch our website to summer events too! We are hoping to do a BC Winter Club night with the B-Mets. So keep your eyes peeled and check our website for any new happenings.

Thank you for sharing your skating season with us. We are looking forward to having you join us again this season!!
